Slavi's Joke: Bulgarian Experience
Society | December 27, 2002, Friday // 00:00
This is a real life story. It happened in Austria on a parking lot by the highway to Zalsburg. Three truck drivers - American, French and Bulgarian, entered a roadside caffe to take a short rest. As usually happens in such situations the three, feeling quite homesick, started a conversation.
"I live in an infinite plain, near a ranch in the prairie," the American said. "When I come home from my travels, I press the hooter, so that my wife knows in good time I am coming back. By the time I come in, the table is laid, the whisky is poured and she is waiting for me.
"I live on a hill in the Alps," the Frenchman said in his turn. "When I come home from my travels, just before climbing to the top of the hill, my wife already knows I am coming back by the truck's strong head-lights. By the time I come in, the bed is made, the sheets are clean, and my wife waits for me nude in the bed.
The Bulgarian also shared his experience:
"My house is at the foot of a downhill. When I come back from my travels, just before reaching the house, I switch off the motor, steal silently in the house, unscrew the fuses, pick up the lever and hide behind the door.
"So what?" the other two asked.
"Well, only one has managed to get away so far."
