EU Countries Join Forces to Strengthen Border Security at Bulgarian-Turkish Border
A joint contingent of border security officers from Bulgaria, Austria, Romania, and Hungary will officially begin operations today
Turkey has brought charges against 99 generals and admirals over their alleged links to last week's foiled coup attempt in the country, the BBC reports.
The figure makes up a significant part of the country's several hundred generals and admirals.
The news comes as a security council is being held in Ankara, with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan meeting cabinet members and loyal military commanders.
On Tuesday, Erdogan said the National Security Meeting was expected to be followed by an announcement, but he did not elaborate.
Thousands of civil servants, university deans, teachers, soldiers and magistrates have been dismissed or detained since the failed coup took place.
On Wednesday, authorities issued a travel ban for academics until further notice.
