Bulgarian Resorts to Start Hiring Seasonal Workers from Abroad
One of the proposals made by the newly established tourism council is to start immediately hiring seasonal workers from abroad in order to improve the quality of service offered in Bulgaria’s summer and winter resorts.
This was stated by Tourism Minister Nikolina Angelkova in an interview for private NOVA TV station on Sunday.
Angelkova explained that this practice will most probably begin to be applied during the forthcoming winter season.
The tourism minister identified the lack of well-trained cadres as the most considerable problem of the sector.
According to her and experts from the council, the period of traineeships offered in the tourism sector should be extended from three to six months.
Angelkova added that hoteliers are organising free language courses and settinp up their own training centres.
In her opinion, Bulgarians prefer to work abroad due to the better conditions and remuneration.
In Bulgaria’s Black Sea resorts, a typical low-qualified worker on eight-hour working day earns a minimum monthly salary of BGN 500.
The minister also commented the ongoing summer season which is currently at its peak.
Angelkova said that official data showed that the number of Russian tourists has considerably increased.
In her words, there was 30 % increase in the number of visas issued to Russian citizens compared to last year.
She repeated figures provided by her earlier this week which showed that nearly two million foreign tourists had visited Bulgaria in the first five months of this year. This represented an increase of 14 % compared to the same period in 2015.
The minister was firm that the large-scale tax inspections along the Black Sea coast will continue.
