The highest-ranking Bulgarian tennis player, Grigor Dimitrov, has confirmed reports he split with his coach Franco Davin before the start of Wimbledon.

His move means 25-year-old Dimitrov was competing at a major without a team for the first time in his career.

Dimitrov was ousted from Wimbledon by Steve Johnson, who defeated him 6-7 (6), 7-6 (3), 6-4, 6-2.

“I’m alone in this tournament. I’m not trying to hide it, obviously. Things just haven’t worked out good for us. It is what it is. This is the situation,” sports magazine 360° quotes him as saying.

After reaching Wimbledon semi-finals two years ago and making it into the ATP's top 10, has been suffering a series of defeats, broken by few victories, since 2015, dropping out of the list of 30 best players.

“It’s (time) for me to obviously find something else, something new, something that would get me back on the right track,” he is also quoted as saying, adding he has not yet thought about his next coach.

Davin had been working with Dimitrov since the summer of 2015. In July of last year, the Bulgarian player announced he had decided to end his working relationship with Roger Rasheed as his coach.
