The European Commission has closed the case 4062/12/ENER against Bulgaria related to restrictions on electricity exports and imposing of import and export taxes, the Energy Ministry announced on Thursday.
Following a request by the Commission, Bulgaria provided information about the reasons which had led to restrictions on exports of electricity generated in Bulgaria, the ministry said in a statement.
Bulgaria has informed the Commission that the measures taken in 2012 aimed to ensure the safety of domestic electricity supply and the balance between consumption and production. The country has also noted that it charges no fees on inbound and outgoing flows of electricity.
The European Commission closed the case in June 2016 and will launch no further infringement proceedings against Bulgaria, the Energy Ministry said.
Bulgaria temporarily halted electricity exports in January and February 2012 due to severe weather conditions as a cold spell gripped the country.
