A Gulf consortium has brought the concession procedure for Sofia Airport to a halt, officials say.
The entity named MAK/ADMAK, which brings together Kuwait-based Mohammed Abdulmohsin Al-Kharafi & Sons and Saudi-based Admak General Contracting Company, has lodged a claim with the Commission for Protection of Competition.
MAK/ADMAK has launched a litigation case against Sofia Airport, arguing the latter has failed to pay compensations.
In 2006, the consortium built a new runway for Sofia Airport, but then reported it had not been paid dozens of millions of USD it was to receive under its contract with the Sofia Airport.
A Paris arbitration ruled in 2011 that Sofia Airport was to pay more than USD 40 M to MAK/ADMAK.
The Bulgarian government announced it was opening a tender for the airport earlier in June.
