Doctors at the Pirogov hospital in Sofia are expected to disclose more details this morning about the condition of Tsvetelina Stoyanova, a member of the Bulgarian rhythmic gymnastics team who underwent surgery after a fall from the sixth floor of a residential building.

Stoyanova is said to be in a "very grave" health condition, according to public broadcaster BNT, as she has a number of traumas in the areas of the chest, abdomen, and vertebrae.

She underwent a spleen rupture surgery at the Pirogov Emergency Hospital in Sofia in the afternoon.

The incident happened on a day when the rhythmic gymnastics team was leaving for a tournament in Israel.

Some media reports, citing Interior Ministry sources, say that the information available suggests she jumped from the balcony.

No details are available as of the moment about what caused the incident, with some media outlets speculating about a possible suicide attempt, as no signs of violence have been reported.

However, Iliana Raeva, the head of the rhythmic gymnastics federation, urged avoidance of all hypotheses for the moment.

She added Stoyanova had categorically refused to go to the European Championships in Israel, confirming her coach Ina Ananieva's earlier comments. Ananieva on Tuesday announced the gymnastics athlete was not going to take part in the tournament due to a "health problem".
