Gen Stoyan Tonev, the former head of the Military Medical Academy (MMA) in Sofia, has been indicted with charges of deliberate mismanagement through conclusion of unprofitable contracts

Tonev allegedly misuses BGN 6.5 M (EUR 3.25 M) of the MMA's budget, according to the Bulgarian prosecuting authorities which submitted the indictment to the Sofia Military Court.

Miroslava Kadurina, who headed the clinic of dermatology at the time, is now also indicted over abuse of office as the clinic allegedly brought losses of BGN 10 M to the hospital during Tonev's term in office.

Prosecutors maintain that Derma Prim MK OOD, a clinic where she is a majority associate, inappropriately used equipment and personnel of the MMA to offer some of its services, while also being a competitor to the MMA's dermatology clinic. Kadurina is separately charged with embezzling more than BGN 0.77 M.

After reports of the two's alleged wrongdoing last year, Tonev quit Parliament where he had a seat at the time.
