Speaking to journalists in parliament on Friday, Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov  revealed that Deputy Labour Minister Zornitsa Rusinova will be nominated as labour minister after the resignation of the previous holder of the position Ivaylo Kalfin on Tuesday.

This development comes after Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Donchev, who was nominated by his party GERB on Thursday, reportedly refused to take over the ministry due to his other numerous commitments as deputy minister.

Kalfin resigned in line with the decision of his party Alternative for Bulgarian Revival (ABV) to withdraw its support for the government due to disagreement with the policies pursued by the cabinet.

Rusinova has served as deputy labour minister during the tenure of Kalfin at the ministry, which would ensure continuity.

Previously, she held senior positions in the Ministry of State Administration and Administrative Reform between 2007 and 2012.

Rusinova holds Master's degrees in International economic relations from the University of National and World Economy and Bulgarian and English philology from Sofia University.

Borisov said that she enjoys the support of the junior coalition partner – the Reformist Bloc (RB), the party supporting the coalition government – the Patriotic Front (PF) and has the backing of employers' organisations and trade unions.
