General Practitioners to Stage Protests Across Bulgaria
General practitioners (GPs) will stage protests across Bulgaria starting from Monday.
Protests will begin in the regions of Veliko Tarnovo, Yambol, Kyustendil and Razgrad, with other regions to follow suit in the coming days.
GPs will close their surgeries, but in each practice where a protest will be held, one medical crew will remain on duty to take care of people with acute need.
The chairperson of the Association of general practitioners in Bulgaria apologised to patients for the temporary inconvenience caused.
The protest is against the policies of the health ministry and the reforms proposed by Health Minsiter Petar Moskov.
GPs are discontent that the additional funding allocated to them has increased by only BGN 2 M in the past years, which amounts to BGN 33 monthly increase per GP.
Although an additional BGN 36 M have been allocated to healthcare outside the hospital, only BGN 2 M are directed towards GPs, with the rest assigned for examinations and consultations with specialists and dentists.
The Bulgarian Doctors' Union withdrew its support from the government and also announced the start of protests from the beginning of this week.
These protests will be against the state of the healthcare system, but the organisers are still to specify their location and activities.
They are calling on colleagues from different branches of medicine to stop work by closing the medical facilities, clinical laboratories and surgerires.
Doctors are against the proposed introduction of fingerprint identification in hospitals, which according to them would treat both patients and doctors as criminals.
They are also against the extension of the waiting time for planned operations which is foreseen by the second package of hospital care.
Municipal and private hospitals will also stage gradual protests, which are expected to spread across the country.
Emergency doctors have said that they will not protest.

Americanisms, frankly, never use them, prefer English, makes more sense.
I was going to say to you "go forth and mutiply" (or words to that effect) but to be honest, the world does not deserve your offspring with they , in any way, take after you!
"Seedy" by name............ a shining example of a pleb!
Madam, it is my right to decide whom I wish to communicate with and , again, I chose not to do so with you. The correspondence was not for you but a pleb calling himself 'Seedy".
I have never claimed to be an intellectual but an academic, in its true sense. I fine the use of the expression "Flying duck" very crass and, I am sure, unworthy of you.
I find your comments amusing, so far from reality but I will stand by what I said at the beginning, I do not support the strike by the Doctors and have had it confirmed that "the medical crew" cannot guarantee the presense of a doctor!
And BTW idiot, our correspondence never started! This is all about you making a mountain out of a molehill and being a most annoying "person". And that's online, I'd hate to think what people that you know personally have to put up with. Go do something useful for a change.
"Do not bother to reply, I feel that our 'correspondence is at an end"..................
Who the flying duck do you think you are telling me or others, whether to reply or not? Get over yourself you arrogant, aggressive, conceited and antagonistic wretch that you are. Having just read your posts, I am convinced that you are not an intellectual at all, but just a sad, rancid old fish looking for trouble and not a debate.
"I am corresponding with high minds, my collegues in academia, my equals, who know about debating."......
Idiot, before you brag about how intellectual you are, and correcting and criticising other people's comments, have a look at your own spelling and style in every comment of yours on this article - which is NOT one of an intellectual. Wannabe. Go take a very long walk on a very short pier.
"Get with the program" is an American expression, you sad pillock. I never use a spell-checker - they're for illiterates and half-wits such as the one you see in your mirror every morning. As with threats, I rarely indulge in bandying words, especially with a patent nincompoop and nonentity. When you grow up intellectually, do let me know....
When in correspondence with any person it is extremely rude to include a comment for another!
When you are trying to bandy words always ensure that all is in order, do not use an American spell checker, they are usually wrong. Ah, you did. In the English language it is P.r.o.g.r.a.m.m.e not the bastarised version. Ignoramus!!
One last comment, Agree? You? Never! You would just argue with yourself!
Seedy, fella, are you real? You seem so full of hatred for anyone without your views. You're intelligent enough, but why don't you put your intellect to being diplomatic and problem solving rather than problem creating? You use your time to detriment rather than positivity.
It definitely shows a weakness if you are unable to communicate but at least you admit it. I am in no concerned at what you think, if at all you do.
You see why I use the word pathetic to describe you, because I have a different view on a subject to you, then I must be an idiot or moron (that is if you actually know the meaning of the word!) Pathetic comments, mind you it shows one that the person I am dealing is narrow and small minded.
I have neither the time or inclination to correspond with you any more.
