Bulgaria’s broadcast media regulator CEM has delayed until next week its meeting on the resignation request submitted by its chairman Georgi Lozanov, Nova TV station reported on Tuesday.

The meeting has been postponed because not all members of the Council for Electronic Media (CEM) were able to attend it, Nova said.

A week ago, CEM delayed its decision on Lozanov’s resignation request on the same grounds.

Lozanov’s term of office will expire on 8 April 2016, Nova TV quoted CEM member Ivo Atanasov as saying on Tuesday.

On 25 February, Lozanov announced that he was stepping down both as CEM chairman and board member in disagreement over a registration request submitted by a new Bulgarian TV station named PIK.

Lozanov explained at the time that with no legal grounds for CEM to deny the registration request, he resigned as he didn’t want to legalize an "aggressive and hostile rhetoric" used by pik.bg, a news outlet which local media have linked to Delyan Peevski, a controversial MP and alleged media mogul.
