Business climate in industry is improving, the August inquiry of the National Statistics Institute shows. The number of contracts awarded to Bulgarian industry from abroad, is up. Enhanced
production activities and optimistic expectations characterise the period.

Trade unions demand that the salaries in the government sector are raised by 10% to compensate for the inflation and raise of fuel and electricity tariffs, plus the annual bonus known as 13-th salary and allocated each year against Christmas. The union of the higher education and science threatened to launch a national strike, if the cabinet fails to raise the salaries effective of October 1.

Property taxes may go up effective of next year, per recommendations of the European Commission, said deputy finance minister Atanas Katsarchev. The specific figures will be clarified after the mission of the International Monetary Fund arrived mid-September.

The list of creditors of the Vidachim chemical plant is ready for promulgation in the Official Gazette. The creditors meeting is scheduled for September 26, said receiver Irena Alexandrova.
Raiffeisenbank and the State Reserves are Vidachim`s largest creditors. Another group of 56 employees was laid off last week.

Eliseina metallurgical plant needs DEM 4.5 million for operating costs, said socialist MP Georgi Bozhinov. The issue has been discussed at the economy ministry and the request for crediting, filed by general director Roumen Krastev will most likely be supported, after an audit of the company, starting in a few days.
