The biggest opposition party in Bulgaria, the BSP, is set to hold a new Congress and elect a leader, less than two years after incumbent Mihail Mikov took over the party.

This was announced by Mikov himself, at a meeting of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) over the weekend.

Mikov did not immediately announce whether or not he is to run, but made clear he would not propose his own candidacy as "some people" do, in his words quoted by Mediapool.

The cogress will take place on May 7 and 8.

The Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) elected him as leader in July of 2014, days before a BSP-led government was to sumbit its resignation.

Mikov took over from Sergey Stanishev, now President of the Party of European Socialists (PES), after the BSP's weak peformance at European Parliament elections that had taken place in May of the same year.
