Bulgaria: La Traviata Conducted by Ljubka Biagioni to Debut in Sofia on February 14

Giuseppe Verdi's opera “La Traviata” with conductor Ljubka Biagioni will be performed for the first time in Hall 1 of the National Palace of Culture (NDK) in the Bulgarian capital of Sofia on February 14.

The soloists on the stage will be Marta Torbidoni - soprano, Mihail Mihaylov - tenor and Anton Keremedtchiev – baritone.

Marta Torbidoni is among the most interesting female opera singers in the contemporary classic music and she has performed in numerous operas around the world.

Bulgarian talent Mihail Mihaylov debuted in 2013 at the Royal Festival Hall in London with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

Anton Keremedtchiev started his career in Sofia and Leipzig and continued his stage performance in Italy.

Ljubka Biagioni began conducting operas in 2007 for the Herrenchiemsee Festival in Bavaria, which she established in 2000 together with her husband and colleague Enoch zu Guttenberg.

The success of the festival prompted Biagioni to conduct other operas which became popular among the German audience, such as “Nabucco,” “Manon Lescaut,” “Rigoletto,” “Ariadne on Naxos.”

The operas have been performed in Chiemsee, at the Klassik am See festival in Nuremberg and at the Sofia Philharmonic, at the time when she was a conductor there.

In 2013 Biagioni established Sofia Symphonics orchestra in order to present Bulgarian classic music internationally.

The same year together with the orchestra, she conducted “La Traviata” at the Herrenchiemsee and Klassik am See festivals.

Ljubka Biagioni is half-Bulgarian, half-Italian. She was born in Rome, where she graduated high school. She decided to continue her higher education at the National Academy of Music in Sofia.
