Sanctions and Market Shifts Lead to Unprecedented Losses for Gazprom in 2024
Gazprom reported a record loss of 480.6 billion rubles (about 5.6 billion US dollars) for the first half of the year
"I wish them all the best! That they agree [with Gazprom] and go on from February. The question is, why did they press us against the wall on the 31st [of December], at 8 PM, to write contracts? Their cartoons and stories... I will refrain from commenting, it is not on my level. It was they who came to ask us to do this. It was they, not we!"
Bulgaria's PM Boyko Borisov commenting on the crisis at Overgas, Bulgaria's biggest private gas suppliers, which allegedly received a letter from Gazprom Export (also one of its shareholders) notifying of a halt in deliveries from January 01. Bulgargaz, the state-owned supplier meanwhile signed a deal with Overgas to make sure the latter's customers will not be facing a gas shortage.
Borisov, however, is also making a reference to the cartoons published in Sega, a daily owned by Overgas which is known for its usually "opposition-style" rhetoric.
