Daily scandals between migrants often growing into massive fights disturb the everyday life of residents of the Ovcha kupel neighbourhood in the Bulgarian capital of Sofia.

The garbage left by the inhabitants of the refugee centre and suspicions for human smuggling have also become part of the daily routine of local residents.

Locals shared that every day 100-200 immigrants gather in front of their block of flats before being driven off in an unknown direction by taxis and minibuses in the evening.

The residents have submitted signals to the authorities, but once the police cars leave, the migrants come out again, private bTV station informs.

So far, no local residents have been injured in the fights between foreigners, but often they become close witness to the melees.

Despite the assurances of the management of the State Agency for Refugees (DAB), the chief of the district police department, the district and the capital mayors, citizens complain that nothing has changed.

A representative of DAB pointed that only a third of the capacity of the refugee centre is occupied.

Among the migrants accommodated at the centre are not only young men, but also mothers with children.

Only ten of the inhabitants are from Africa, the rest are from Syria and Iraq.

The accommodation is of an open type and the registered inhabitants could move freely.

There is curfew, but an internet club in the region attracts migrants from different parts of the city.

However this falls outside the competencies of DAB as the agency is responsible only for those registered at the centre.

In an open letter addressed to Interior Minister Rumyana Bachvarova, residents have invited her to visit the neighbourhood.

Residents shared that their patience is coming to an end and expressed readiness to protest.
