Bulgaria: Turkey Stops Over 36,500 Terror Suspects Trying to Enter Syria - Minister

Turkey’s Interior Minister Efkan Ala said on Thursday that the country has stopped more than 36,500 terror suspects trying to reach Syria, Anadolu Agency reported.

Turkey has denied entry to 33,746 people from 123 countries suspected of joining terror activities in Syria,” the Turkish news agency quoted Ala as saying at a meeting of its Editors’ Desk in Ankara.

Another 2,783 suspects from 89 countries have been detained and later deported.

Ala didn’t give a time frame for those activities of the Turkish authorities.

Turkey, which shares a 900 km border with Syria, has spent more than USD 100 M to stem the flow of foreign fighters trying to join group such as the Islamic State organization, according to dailysabah.com. To make its border more secure, Turkey has built a 23 kilometer-long concrete wall, a 108 kilometer-long fence, 386 kilometers of ditches and an 80 kilometer-long embankment in sections where illegal crossings could occur.
