Bulgaria Third in Women's Biathlon Relay

Bulgaria ranked third in a women's World Cup biathlon relay Wednesday. The Bulgarian quartet, featuring Kadeva, Filipova, Dafovska and Karagjozova, covered the 24 kilometers nearly 2.5 minutes behind the Russians, who combined perfect shooting with fast cross-country skiing to win the relay. Second came the quartet of Germany 2 minutes, 8.1 seconds behind the Russian team, featuring Svetlana Tshernousova, Galina Koukleva, Yirina Malguina and Svetlana Ishmourarova. The German team (Martina Glagow, Simone Denkinger, Andrea Henkel and Katja Beer) still has the overall lead with 96 points while Russia is second with 93. All races were moved to the man-made trails outside Ostersund because of a snow shortage in Pokljuka, Slovenia, the original venue. The International Biathlon Federation shortened the length of the relay leg - usually 7.5 kilometers - in a bid to make the race more exciting. The men's relay is Thursday and individual races will be held this week.
