Sending U.S. troops to Iraq and Syria to fight the Islamic State group on the ground "would be a mistake," United States President Barack Obama said on Monday.
Obama said there would be no change to the current military strategy of the U.S-led coalition fighting the jihadist militants in Iraq and Syria despite Friday’s multiple terror attacks in Paris that killed 129 people.
He also said that his closest advisers, both military and civilian, shared the same view.
"We are going to continue the strategy that has the best chance of working," Reuters quoted Obama as saying at a news conference after a G20 summit in Antalya, Turkey.
“We can retake territory and as long as we keep our troops there we can hold it. But that does not solve the underlying problem of eliminating the dynamics that are producing these kinds of violent, extremist groups," Obama said.
