Court Hears Bulgaria's N-plant Case Today

The case regarding the complaint of eleven MPs from leftist "Coalition for Bulgaria" against the governmental decision on nuke units three and four will be heard today by three-member jury. The case draws the attention as the government is to present in courtroom the shorthand report of its meeting when the decision for closure of units three and four of the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant was taken. The representative of the Council of Ministers withholded the record for the previous four hearings arguing that it was not an official document because it was not signed by Council of Ministers officials. The Supreme Adminisratative Court ordered the Council of Ministers to produce the entire shorthand report signed by a Council of Ministers official at the next hearing of the case. The left-wingers that filed the complaint say the government's promise to close units three and four in 2006 as required by the EU was a violation of the Bulgarian Parliament's decision on the issue. The MPs had passed a resolution that constitutes the closures only upon the country's accession in the EU.
