Bulgaria Ratified Death Penalty in All Circumstances

Bulgaria's Parliament ratified Protocol No 13 of the European Convention for Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms on the abolishment of death penalty in all circumstances. The Protocol was approved by the Cabinet on August 29. The previous treaty left the abolishment of the capital punishment in circumstances of war to the independent judgment of the countries. After the 1998 amendments in the Penal Code, the death penalty has not been applied in Bulgaria.
