Average voter activity in the run-off vote of Bulgaria's local elections was about 21.17% as of 13:00 EET on Sunday, election authorities have said.

This marks a sharp rise with the 8.7% nationally as of 10:00 EET, election authorities have said.

Some constituencies are to pick their mayors or district mayors in the second round, after half of the 28 towns and cities constituting regional centers did so last Sunday.

Voter activity in Sofia has been just 2.29% in the capital Sofia and between 1.5 and over 4 percent in as of noontime.

In Plovdiv, where Ivan Totev (incumbent backed by the main ruling GERB party) is pitted against Slavcho Atanasov (supported by the nationalist coalition Patriotic Front which also backs the government), activity was about 3.78% as of that time.

Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev earlier called on voters to go to the polls and enforce their right to having the final say.
