Socialists Say Cabinet Braces for Possible Bad News in Copenhagen

Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) denounced the government saying it would try to blame the opposition for a possible bad news for Bulgaria at the EU Copenhagen summit. The statement of the left-wingers comes after government spokesman Dimitur Tsonev said on Monday that some EU members were sceptic regarding Bulgaria's accession. He pointed out that the lack of reformed judiciary, the delays in privatisation and the lack of political unity explained the reserve of the EU countries. The socialists regard these words as an attempt for escaping responsibility. They say BSP supports the country's EU bid and is far from jeopardising it. The party stressed that 2007 was mentioned as Bulgaria's reference EU entry date in a resolution of the European Parliament after the European socialists lobbied for it. Bulgaria hopes that the EU members will decide to fix 2007 as final accession date for Bulgaria at the Copenhagen summit at the end of this week.
