EC to Extend Deadline for Use of SAPARD Funds by Bulgaria

The European Commission will extend by one year the term for the already allocated funds under the SAPARD program for Bulgaria, Kaj Mortenson of the EC's agricultural directorate, announced in Sofia. He pays a visit for the monitoring of the program's implementation in Bulgaria. The funding allocated under the annual financial agreement from 2000, amounting to EUR 53 M can be absorbed by the end of 2004, EUR 54,1 M under the agreement from 2001 can be absorbed by the end of 2005. He underlined that a political decision on that matter will be taken very soon. Under the financial agreement with the European Commission for 2002, Bulgaria is to receive EUR 55,6 M, Mortenson also announced.
