John Ritch, Director General World Nuclear Association, said it was very important the peer review of nuke units three and four to be conducted by a team of objective, highly qualified, neutral and fair experts. In his opinion, the Bulgarian government should take a firm stand in case that the review proved the safety of the units. The expert from the World Nuclear Association thinks that if the units are safe the Bulgarian government should lobby against their closure. "You have very good technical experience, your work corresponds to the highest nuclear safety standards. Bulgaria should rather be encouraged than discouraged to use the equipment it has," Rich said after a meeting with Deputy Energy Minister Anguel Minev. After a meeting with President Parvanov, Ritch said that the European Union experts set higher standards than the EU standards for Bulgaria regarding the nuke sector. In his opinion, Bulgaria should tell EU that it shouldn't require from Bulgaria higher standards than those in the European Union.
