48 volunteers from the Peace Corps were trained in Panagyurishte, a town to the South of Central Sredna Gora mountain. They had a ten-week training period in Panagyurishte where they studied Bulgarian and Bulgarian culture 5 to 8 hours per day. The volunteers had Bulgarian host families in the town for the training period. They gave up from their life in the States to work in Bulgaria as English teachers in high schools, forest-guards, ecologists in the municipalities and business consultants. The age of the volunteers is between 21 and 87 years. The volunteers are enthusiastic, curious and a little bit adventurous. Only six could not manage with the new task in their lives and gave it up. The Peace Corps is an American state agency, created to promote a better understanding of other peoples on the part of Americans.
