Prime Minister Boyko Borisov stated on Thursday that at present Turkey is saving Europe and in particular Bulgaria from the refugee wave.
In his words, Turkey was making huge efforts in addressing the crisis and the recent discussions between Turkish President Recep Erdogan and the leaders of the EU demonstrated Ankara's clear commitment for further actions.
Borisov added that he had held a telephone conversation with Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and will meet him in person on October 14 in order to continue their joint efforts in tackling the crisis.
As regards his stance at the forthcoming meeting with European Council President Donald Tusk in Bulgaria, Borisov said that he never speaks in advance, Darik radio quotes him as saying.
He noted that the tradition for European Council presidents to visit Bulgaria each year will be maintained.
Borisov pointed to his good friendship with Tusk as their terms as prime ministers of their respective countries have coincided for five years.
The two will have many topics for discussion and among them will be refugees, Syria and especially the establishment of a safe zone there.
According to him, Tusk knew the arguments of Borisov perfectly well as these were discussed at the meeting of the European Council.
Borisov highlighted that nothing good was to befall Bulgaria and Europe from the refugee wave and it will not come to an end until a solution to the crisis in Syria is found.
In his opinion, Europe was coming to its senses by starting to realise the seriousness of the problems and was actively seeking solutions.
Borisov made this comments during his visit to Sofia Tech Park where he was accompanied by EU Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation Carlos Moedas, Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Donchev and Education Minister Todor Tanev.
