Five Ways Euro Adoption Will Strengthen Bulgaria Amid Global Uncertainty
In a world increasingly defined by unpredictability, structural shifts are replacing what once were seen as passing disturbances.
At least 16 EU member states plus four regions in other EU countries are prohibiting the growing of genetically modified (GM) crops on their territories under new rules, Greenpeace has said.
Those member states and regions represent over 65% of the EU’s population and as much of the bloc’s arable land, Greenpeace said in a press release.
“A clear majority of the EU’s governments are rejecting the Commission’s drive for GM crop approvals. They don’t trust EU safety assessments and are rightly taking action to protect their agriculture and food. Greenpeace EU food policy director Franziska Achterberg commented. “The only way to restore trust in the EU system now is for the Commission to hit the pause button on GM crop approvals and to urgently reform safety testing and the approval system.”
Bulgaria’s Agriculture Ministry has confirmed that the country will remain free from cultivation of genetically modified crops. The ban on growing GM crops in Bulgaria covers eight varieties of maize, one variety of soybeans and one variety of carnations.
