Bulgarian police detained on Tuesday a 26-year-old British MMA fighter for stealing a forklift, crashing into two vehicles and attacking police officers in the Black Sea resort of Sunny Beach.
The British citizen stole the forklift from a warehouse and crashed into two vehicles.
Luckily no people were injured in the collisions.
The police officers, who had arrived at the site of the road accidents, attempted on several occasions to detain the British citizen, but he waved a 30-centimetre steel wrench at them.
Minites later, he started to hit himself on the head with the wrench and ran away.
Following a short pursuit, the police officers made a new attempt to arrest him, but one of them was hit on the arm with the wrench.
The unknown ran in the direction of the town of Nesebar, heading for a nearby petrol station.
He entered the petrol station, grabbed glass bottles of alcohol from the shelves and started throwing them at the police officers.
As the police officers were taking out the three scared employees of the petrol station, other people tried to distract his attention by using a fire extinguisher.
The unknown entered the kitchen area and came out armed with two large knives.
Officers from the specialised police forces, a unit of the fire safety and civil protection directorate of the interior ministry and an emergency medical crew were dispatched to the area.
Two specialised crews neutralised the attacker, who was taken to hospital due to the self-inflicted injuries and his inadequate behaviour.
There a blood sample was taken from him to establish the presence of narcotic or other substances.
He has been identified as a 26-year-old British citizen, who arrived in Bulgaria on September 21 as a tourist.
It was established that he is an active athlete who has been training for MMA fights.
