A child has gone missing in the waters of the Danube river near the Bulgarian city of Ruse on Tuesday.

Three children were bathing in the river in the area of the so-called “Horse beach” under the Riga hotel.

The children were bathing in the forbidden area, when one of them went missing, Darik radio reports.

It is most likely that the fourteen-year-old boy was engulfed in a whirlpool or a pit.

The police, emergency medical service and border police were immediately dispatched to the area of the incident.

A border police cutter was searching the body late into the night and the search operation continues on Wednesday.
