Bulgarian PM Boiko Borisov stated Thursday that the EU's poorest economy is ready to provide Greece with humanitarian aid.
“In case the Greeks need help, we’ll always support them” by providing food and medicine, Borisov said in a phone interview with Bloomberg in Sofia late Wednesday. “That money could be used for” domestic “social policy or for education instead, but we’ll still do it.”
He added that Bulgaria is determined to help keep Greece afloat as a possible collapse of the country's southern neighbor could well cause subsequent negative consequences across the rest of Balkan nations.
Opinions across the EU are currently divided when it comes to the Greek crisis with some supporting a possible Grexit, while others firmly oppose that move.
The publication also noted the fact that despite the 21% of Bulgarian population living under the poverty line, the country's publi debt is the fourth lowest in the EU – merely 29%.
Greek government submitted official list of reform proposals in late Thursday.
