The UN Population Fund (UNFPA) awarded the winners in the poster contest "Population, Poverty, Development" at a moving ceremony in Sofia on Tuesday night. Over five hindered children across Bulgaria took part in the contest picturing the world around them where poverty is not a rare view. The winners were selected in five categories according to their age by experts from the Art Academy. Fifteen of the winning posters were displayed at the ceremony in the Military Club in Sofia and will later tour nine municipalities across the country. Some of them will be dispatched for an international contest which selection will take place end-December. UNFPA have organized such contests since 1992 aiming to make adults see poverty through children's eyes and find ways to restrict it through better education, health care and respect to human rights. The second highlight of the ceremony was the joint project of the UN and Bulgaria's Health Ministry for sexual and reproductive health. 15 to 19-year old volunteers have been trained under the project to enlighten their peers about sexual transmitted diseases and pregnancy prevention. 4,000 youngsters already took part in the project - some of them feature in the documentary presented by the UNFPA at the ceremony. The event in Sofia coincided with the worldwide launch of the new visual identity of the UNFPA.
