A mission of the European Commission will be ariving in Bulgaria in order to inspect the quality of milk produced in the country, the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR) reported.

The transitional period during which local farms can comply with the European regulations regarding hygiene will be complete by end 2015. Bulgaria has demanded on three occassions a deadline extension for the program.

Meanwhile, Bulgarian Minister of Agriculture and Foods, Desislava Taneva stated that a new deadline extension for the country will not be demanded.

Over 3,600 farmers have already complied with the EU laws and regulations out of a total of 37,000-38,000 located in the country. The announcement was made by Marin Marinov, Chief Expert in the Directorate ''Healthcare of livestock'' to the National Food Safety Agency . He further noted that 2/3 of the cows in Bulgaria are currently residing in those 3,600 farms.

Meanwhile, an additional 500-600 farms have complied with only a portion of the requirements, while the majority have not implemented any improvements.

Marinov commented on the future of the farms that still have not implemented improvement policies in their businesses.

''First of all, they can modernize their productions and get into the zone of excellent performers,'' If they fail to do so, they have two other options - either to redirect themselves to meat production. The other one is for them to leave their production for personal conmsumption.''
