The town of Ignatievo located near Varna is currently under police investigation. The officers have restricted the access to the areas with luxury residential buildings.
A journalistic report has shown that a number of them have been purchased and remodeled with money obtained through a criminal scheme. The Roma population in town has organized pickpocket tours of Varna's malls thus obtaining unregistered income.
The joint action organized by the local police authorities and the National Revenue agency (NAP) started early Wednesday morning.
Almost every car entering or attempting to leave the restricted premises is being stopped for a regular check, as reported by Nova Television. Several women of Roma origin have already been arrested.
''As the arrests are ongoing, I will not be commenting anymore,'' stated Varna Police Department Chief, Commissioner Pashov. He added that police work on the case has been extremely difficult.
Additionally the Regional Police Department number 3 in Varna is also under investigation on account of allegations that officers have provided a cover up for the criminal scheme.
