Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov will convene the Security Council at the Council of Ministers over tensions in Macedonia after Saturday’s deadly clashes between police and an armed group in Kumanovo.

Borisov noted Tuesday that security services kept informing about risks for Bulgaria, according to reports of the Bulgarian National Radio.

A total of 22 people, including eight police officers, were killed in the firefight, and some 37 were wounded.

The National Liberation Army (NLA), an ethnic Albanian separatist group closely linked to the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), claimed responsibility for the attacks on police in Kumanovo.

Interior Ministry Spokesperson Ivo Kotevski announced that the armed group had planned terror attacks against state institutions.

On Monday, the prosecuting authority in Macedonia pressed terrorism-related charges against the 30 members of the armed group arrested on Saturday.
