Bulgaria's government is calling for a "quick, transparent and full" investigation into Saturday's events in Kumanovo, Macedonia in which police officers were killed.

Apart from at least 6 dead police officers, other 29 were wounded in a shootout with gunmen which reportedly surrendered late in the evening.

In an official statement of the Foreign Ministry, Bulgaria is extending its condolence to to families and relatives of the victims.

"We consider that the status of the Republic of Macedonia as a candidate for NATO and EU membership requires a quick, transparent and full investigation" into the developments and respective measures "within the rule of law".
