The Bulgarian Health Minister Petar Moskov said on Monday that the number of hospitals could decrease by 50 next year.
This could become reality in case the parliament adopts the proposed amendments to the Medical treatment facilities act, Moskov said in an interview for the Bulgarian National Radion (BNR).
According to the proposed amendments, the National Health Insurance Fund (NZOK) will be granted the right to choose hospitals with which it can conclude contracts according to the real needs of the population.
Moskov pointed that the preliminary estimates on the size of the basic package of healthcare service provided by NZOK will be ready at the end of June.
He made it clear that there will be no transfer of diseases from the basic to the additional packages of NZOK.
The patients will not have to pay extra for the diseases, which are the main causes of early mortality and increased disability starting from next year.
The minister added that the funds collected from the dismissal of the administrative personnel around the Aleksandrovska Hospital in Sofia will be allocated to the medical workers and the patients.
