Bulgaria and Romania will set up a joint tourist information center will in China as part of the initiative of the two countries to develop joint tourist products for distant markets, according to Bulgarian Tourism Minister Nikolina Angelkova.

Angelkova announced the plans about the tourist information center during the signing of a protocol of intent on cooperation between Bulgaria and Romania in the sphere of tourism.

The protocol was signed at a ceremony in Craiova's Art Museum in the presence of Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov and his Romanian counterpart Victor Ponta after a joint meeting of the governments of the two countries.

Bulgaria’s Tourism Minister emphasized that the number of Romanian tourists in Bulgaria had reached 1 million a year over the past few years, while the number of Bulgarians visiting Romania stood at around 300 000.

Angelkova, as cited by Bulgaria’s Tourism Ministry, also pointed out that the signing of the protocol was to reinforce the upward trend and increase the presence of Bulgaria and Romania as a tourist destination on third-country markets.

During the visit to Craiova, Angelkova met with Romania’s State Secretary of the Ministry of Economy, Marcel Bogdan Pandelica.

The two agreed that Bulgaria and Romania would work on the preparation of a joint project to be financed under the Cross-border Cooperation Programme, with the working group tasked with drafting the project proposal to be ready at the beginning of next week.

The indicative value of the project, which is to be ready by end-June, is around EUR 1.5 M, according to the press office of Bulgaria’s Tourism Ministry.
