Bulgaria Sees Record Import of Foreign Labor Amid Growing Demand
Over the past six years, more than 108,000 workers from 65 different countries have come to Bulgaria for employmen
''We were about 15-20 people working on the site,'' stated Stefan Angelov, one of the workers on the site of the collapsed hotel Veronika in Varna Wednesday. ''Around 5 pm, Mister Goergiev ordered to five people to enter the hotel and to start destroying the base with metal cutting machines. One of them refused. So, the other four were ordered to go in. He told them that in case of any danger they will have 30-40 minutes to escape so they entered. After that he went up on a hill overlooking the building and told them that even if a swallow flies over the hotel, he will them and they can escape. The moment the hotel collapsed, Mister Georgiev entered his car in the fastest way possible and disappeared.''
Angelov was also working on the site, as the hotel collapsed and killed the 40-year old worker Borislav Asenov, and four other people were injured, BGNES reported.
People left under the ruins are Todor Dimitrov, Manol Raychev, the passed away Borislav Asenov and possibly a man named Yordan or Yosif.
Rescue teams have been working all night and still have not managed to find the workers under the ruins, OFF News reported.
According to the official information, provided by The General Labor Inspectorate, ''Mister Georgiev'' is in fact the technical manager on site who had ordered the destruction of the metal-concrete constructions, so that the steel can be retrieved.
The official owner of the complex is the Plovdiv Fair.
