European Parliament Passes Law to Restrict Cash Payments to €10,000
The European Parliament has voted to impose a €10,000 limit on cash payments within the European Union
The next round of gas supply talks between Russia, Ukraine and the EU will be held in April, Russia’s Energy Minister Alexander Novak said on Friday.
The three sides agreed to continue consultations over the pricing of Russian gas deliveries within the so-called summer package, ITAR-TASS quoted Novak as saying in Brussels following talks with Ukrainian Energy Minister Volodymyr Demchishin and EU energy chief Maros Sefcovic.
Novak also said that the Russian government will consider a discount to the price Ukraine will pay for Russian gas supplies from 1 April. According to him, the discount could reach USD 100 per 1,000 cubic metres, or 30% if the price is lower than USD 330 per 1,000 cubic metres.
Novak also said the price Ukraine will pay for gas in the second quarter of 2015 will be approximately USD 348 per 1,000 cubic meters without discount, according to Interfax. Ukraine has been paying USD 329 per 1,000 cubic metres in the first quarter under a deal negotiated by the Commission last year.
Moscow will return to the take-or-pay formula for Russian gas supply to Ukraine from 1 April, Novak added.
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s Finance Minister Natalia Yaresko has said gas imports from the EU now cost USD 50 less for 1,000 cubic metres than gas imports from Russia.
Yaresko also said on Friday that currently Ukraine is buying 70% of its gas from the EU, importing it in reverse flow via existing pipelines, according to ITAR-TASS.
