Getting There: Bozhentsi

Nestled in the embrace of Stara Planina mountain range and 15 km east of Gabrovo and at the altitude of 750 meters is the village of Bozhentsi, a reserve of architecture and history. A birth-place of a great number of distinguished Bulgarian writers, artists, architects and scientists, the village preserved the national spirit in one of the most picturesque architectural ensembles of the National Revival period. Local masters built the houses during the Ottoman rule with stone ground floors, jutting out first floors, bay windows, stone-slated roofs. Legend has it that the village was founded by a noble-woman, named Bojana, who found shelter in the mountains after Veliko Turnovo was conquered by the Turks in 1393. In fact the tangible presence of the past is the most valuable asset of the place. The complex offers accommodation in restored houses, equipped with modern facilities. Still what tourists have the chance to find here is a touch with the past, tranquillity and quiet. The hotels are in a typical traditional style with all modern conveniences. We recommend you "Jelepova kashta" Hotel Complex. It has available five rooms with two beds in ach plus two apartments with a fireplace and offers swimming pool, steambath, hunting TIR and riding. Another option is "Karaslavovata kashta", which offers a similar price list. As to the menu you will be pleasantly surprised by the wide range of game specialities.
