A man suspected of being linked to the assassination of Russian opposition politician Boris Nemtsov has killed himself in Grozny, the capital of Russia's Chechen Republic, Interfax reported on Sunday.
According to unnamed police sources, the man tossed a hand grenade at police that had arrived to arrest him before blowing himself up with a second grenade, the Russian news agency said.
The information has not been officially confirmed by Russian law enforcement bodies.
In a related development, two more suspects, apart from Zaur Dadayev and Anzor Gubashev, had been arrested on suspicion of being connected to the killing of Boris Nemtsov, RIA Novosti reported late on Saturday, quoting a spokesman for the Security Council of Russia's Republic of Ingushetia.
Earlier on Saturday, Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) Director Alexander Bortnikov announced that Dadayev and Gubashev were arrested on suspicion of the murder of Nemtsov. Both men are from Russia's North Caucasus region.
No charges were immediately announced, but the two were expected appear in a Moscow court on Sunday.
The detentions came just over a week after Nemtsov, a former deputy prime minister turned critic to Russian President Vladimir Putin, was shot down close to the Kremlin walls in the evening of February 27. According to investigators, he was shot four times in the back from a Makarov pistol.
