Bulgaria regrets Moscow’s decision to stop work on the South Stream gas pipeline, according to Bulgaria’s Ambassador to Russia Boyko Kotsev.

Stressing Bulgaria’s reliability as a participant in the gas pipeline project, Kotsev, as cited by the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency, informs that the Bulgarian companies involved in the scheme keep working on it in order to meet their contractual obligations.

“We are closely following the statements of public figures in Russia but we also have contractual obligations under these agreements that have not been officially revoked,” he states, adding that public statements and contractual obligations are two different things.

He goes on to say that discussions on energy supply to the region are currently taking place on an EU-level.

“We receive gas from three sources and now a fourth one is being developed, the Caspian region, and a prospective fifth one - the Middle East. This is very important to us because when Russia and Ukraine are quarreling, Bulgaria suffers,” he argues.

He informs that Bulgaria is working to achieve energy diversification and is actively developing its gas grid interconnections with Greece, Turkey, Serbia, and Romania.

“Bulgaria has a sufficiently branched-out gas transmission system, which makes it a reliable transit partner,” Bulgaria’s Ambassador to Russia points out.

Citing geological surveys pointing to substantial gas reserves in Bulgaria’s continental shelf, Kotsev adds that the start of the development of these sites is being planned.

Facts or Myth - 12 Mar 2015 // 01:07:39

It's funny how all the haters jump to conclusion without knowing any facts! How about due process? Did you see the video of Zaur Dadaev actually confessing? Or, are you trying to compare him with Marinus van der Lubbe? or maybe Lee Harvey Oswald? But what do you know, when the facts do not agree with your hatered, you start with the vitriolic and outright lies...and no I'm not Russian

Rurik - 3 Mar 2015 // 11:41:29

Russians "should be evicted from BG"-------the author is as brave as a doe-hare and as wise as a brick.

Tania Oximoron - 3 Mar 2015 // 02:19:30

As always, Tanka is full of hot air. How long do you think a Gazprom should have waited for the EU an BG to make up their mind?
Gazprom didn't quit the deal, it's the bureaucrats in EU and BG who were trying to politicize a business deal that got screwed up...

Tania Oz - 2 Mar 2015 // 20:21:00

Oh stop grovelling to the Russians. Good riddance to bad rubbish is more to the point. The whole damn lot of them should also be evicted from BG permanently and their properties confiscated and auctioned off, and the revenue raised to go to health services. Ban all Russians from BG and it will be a much better place.

Having said that; typically, the Russians (Putin) are full of bluster and are quick to announce the end of South Stream BG, but they haven't actually terminated their contractual obligations officially and in a proper manner. This whole messy situation is going to cost BG a whole lot of money and time in a long legal process and many unpleasantries for years to come. The whole situation is awkward at best and SS BG was entirely rushed, manipulated and mishandled by the previous government, remember them - that expert team of devious, incompetent Socialist vermin.
