Danube Bridge II Management Contract Signed in Sofia

An agreement with the international engineering and management consultant on the project for the construction of a second bridge across the Danube river at Vidin-Calafat was signed in Sofia November 27. The contractor is a tie-in between British Scott Wilson Holdings, Flint & Neill partnership and Spanish Ibernisa S.A. It was signed by Dimitris Kourkoulas, head of the European Commission in Sofia, Martin Edge, a representative of the consortium and Deputy Transport Minister Mukova. The Scott Wilson Holdings consortium was chosen by a competitive bidding procedure in accordance with the regulations set out in the European Commission's (EC) Ispa Programme. The consortium won the bidding competing with another five candidates shortlisted from 16 prestigious European companies. The consultant is to assist the Unit for Execution and Management of the Project over a sixty-month period in drawing up a final report on the environmental impact. It will provide consultations on financial and legal issues, as well as to the unit for management. The maximum cost of the contract with the consultant is set at EUR 5,5 M. Nearly EUR 5 M of them will be provided by the European Union and ISPA, the remainder will be earmarked from the state budget.
