World Commemorates Victims of Holocaust, Liberation of Auschwitz

State representatives from all around the world gather in Poland on Tuesday to mark the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration and extermination camp.
January 27, the day in which the Red Army liberated the camp in 1945, was declared as an International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust in 2005 by the United Nations (UN).
Around a hundred Holocaust survivors will be present at the official commemoration service and will be accompanied by representatives of Israel.
The leaders of Germany, France and Ukraine will attend the traditional silent march and will be accompanied by the Secretary of US Treasury Jacob Lew and Chief of Russia's Presidential Administration Sergei Ivanov.
Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev will also express the country's support in the march.
The main event will start with the lighting of candles in front of the "Gate of Death" at Birkenau.
Meanwhile, commemoration events are taking place all around Europe and the world.
