Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced at his annual press conference on Wednesday that Moscow relies on the fact that the Turkish Stream project will be realized, which will allow for the strengthening of energy security in Europe.

Lavrov stated that the issue with South Streamis concluded, TASS news agency reports.

''We could no longer postpone the completion of our obligations," Lavrov said. "Plus, to be honest, they were just playing around with us. "

During his visit in Turkey in December 2014, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the cancellation of the South Stream project, and another one will be built instead in Turkey.

Meanwhile Gazprom CEO Alexey Miller said that up until 2020 Ukraine will be completely eliminated from the transit route for transportation of natural gas to Europe.

Lavrov pointed out that Europe was already showing much interest towards the alternative project Turkish Stream.

The Russian Foreign Minister added that official talks are currently taking place regarding the specifics.

In his view, Turkish Stream will create an opportunity for increased energy security in Europe, while at the same time prevent it from dealing with problematic transit states.
