Around 400,000 Bulgarian Pensioners to Receive 100 Leva Christmas Bonus
Approximately 400,000 pensioners in Bulgaria will receive a Christmas supplement of 100 leva (50 euros)
One and a half million Bulgarians will have less than BGN 9.2 per day to “celebrate” the Christmas and New Year holidays, reports the BTA wire service.
One million pensioners will have less than BGN 5 per day during the holidays.
According to data of the National Statistics Institute, the poverty threshold for 2013 in Bulgaria was BGN 285.92 per month per person. At those levels, 21% of the population in the country lived below the poverty threshold.
Currently the official poverty line stands at BGN 251, but will rise to BGN 286 per month from 2015.
