Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov discussed several energy projects as substitutes to the cancelled South Stream pipeline during the summit of the European Council on Thursday.

Following a meeting with British Prime Minister David Cameron, Borisov said that after the cancellation of South Stream the restoration of the Nabucco-West pipeline became a reality.

Borisov continues to be optimistic about the project which will transport natural gas, supplied from the Shah Deniz field in Azerbaijan, from the Bulgarian-Turkish border to Austria, passing through Romania and Hungary.

The project was suspended in 2013 when the Shah Deniz consortium chose to transit its gas through the Trans-Adriatic pipeline rather than through Nabucco.

Borisov said that he had explained to his fellows from the European People's Party both the idea for the gas hub, as well as the restoration of the Nabucco-West project.

The Prime Minister revealed that energy projects have been discussed in detail during his meeting with Cameron.

Borisov was assured by European leaders that they were concerned about the difficult situation Bulgaria was faced with.

The Prime Minister added that year and a half were overslept by the previous government for clarification of the details on South Stream, which his cabinet would have solved if not forced to resign in 2013.

Borisov said that during his conversation with Cameron they have talked on accelerating their countries' cooperation on counter-terrorism, gas and energy independence, investments.

The Prime Minister boasted that he was congratulated by Cameron for his latest electoral victory in October.

Borisov said that the attention towards Bulgaria was due to the presence of a stable government, for which he thanked his coalition partners.
The Prime Minister concluded that it is important for everyone to contribute to ensuring the proper absorption of the EU funds, the restoration of the state system and the salvation of the country.
