Politics | August 29, 2001, Wednesday // 00:00

Bulgaria will lobby its bid for non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council at a World Conference in Durban, South Africa from August 31 to September 7. High level delegations will express their positions on the topic of the conference `Against Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance.` Foreign Minister Passy is expected to head the Bulgarian delegation. Working groups have been drafting for a year the two
documents which the conference will put to the vote. The Bulgarian side made concrete proposals in the course of the preparation of the document. However, the documents do not contain specific clauses on Bulgaria because the country is not affected directly by this problem, having proven its tolerance. The Bulgarian ethnic model will be mentioned in the speech of the delegation member.
