Bulgarian Government to Decide on Minimum Wage, Judicial Reform

The increase of the minimum wage to BGN 380 is expected to be approved at the meeting of the Council of Ministers on Wednesday.
The proposal calls for the two-step increase of the minimum wage, first to BGN 360 from the beginning of next year, then rising to BGN 380 in mid-2015.
The new levels of the minimum wage are intended as measures to decrease the number of working poor as well as rising the purchasing power of workers with higher incomes.
Bulgaria's government is also to review the updated Strategy for continuation of the reform in the judiciary, which will be presented by Justice Minister Hristo Ivanov at the meeting on Wednesday.
The document foresees the division of the Supreme Judicial Council into two quotas – judicial and prosecutorial, Darik radio reports.
It also provides for an international assessment of the state of the prosecution with the idea being that international experts are to clarify the factors for political and hierarchical influence on the prosecution.
Recently Prime Minister Boyko Borisov and Deputy Prime Minister Meglena Kuneva announced that the strategy is also to be passed to Parliament for deliberation until the end of the year.
The aim of the document is to build upon the existing efforts on modernisation of the judicial system and to complete its reform, electronic daily Dnevnik reports.
This will ensure effective guarantees for the rule of law and the healing of the state governance and institutions.
The value of the updated strategy lies in the guarantees it provides for impartial court and working and responsible prosecution.
The the main goal of the strategy is to guarantee the independence of the court and the other organs of the judiciary by providing effective measures against corruption, political and economic pressure.
